Unleashed
When I stepped into the classroom at Royal Roads University on a warm, sunny day in September 2022, I had no idea what was actually in store for me. Filled with anticipation, some jet lag and a whole lot of imposter syndrome, I took my seat with a deep sense of knowing that I was in the right place.
I was right.
What I didn’t know was the extent to which I would benefit from this experience. I thought I was setting out to gain the coaching skills I needed to pursue a coaching career. What I found has been infinitely more.
The ACC designation that I earned today is so much more than an accreditation. It’s a symbol of the inner growth I have accomplished. You see, coaching has unleashed something inside me. I guess you could call it my inner wisdom. My intuition. My inner voice. I don’t know exactly what to call it, but I do know how to access it. Coaching is about empowering others to reach their full potential, and in doing so, I am discovering my own. What an invaluable gift! The more I give to others through coaching, the more I receive.
And it doesn’t stop there. The growth cascades into other aspects of my life as well, including, of course, motherhood. We are constantly barraged with information about mothering - how to make your child sleep, how to feed them, what schools to send them to, what programs to sign them up for. There is information out there for or against every possible decision you have to make in parenthood. It’s exhausting and quite frankly, overwhelming. Coaching others has taught me how to cut through all that noise and tap into the only resource you’ll ever really need - yourself. At the end of the day, YOU have to be the one to choose which decision to make, so why not choose the one that feels right?
I continue to be thankful each and every day that I took the bold (and scary) step to follow my heart to coaching. I am damn proud of my ACC designation, and above all, I am grateful for what it has unlocked within me.
